Since the first recorded police death in 1791, more than 20,000 law enforcement officers have been killed in the line of duty throughout our Nation’s history.  The Police Unity Tour’s mission is to raise awareness of Law Enforcement Officers who made this ultimate sacrifice for our citizens.  It also raises funds for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and Museum in Washington DC. The Memorial honors federal, state and local law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the endeavor of keeping the citizens of our nation safe.  The names of these officers are engraved on the Memorial’s two curving marble walls, creating a “pathway of remembrance”.   

 

In May 2019, the Howard County Cycling Team will again be participating in the Police Unity Tour.  The 300-mile ride will begin in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and travel through Maryland, stopping in Howard County on our way to the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial.  During the ride, we will be remembering all of our Country’s Fallen Heroes, but particularly Howard County’s Corporal Scott Wheeler, Police Officer Randolph Brightwell and Recruit Officer Roger Cassell.  When these officers died, we lost not only good officers, but good friends.  

 

While the officers participating in the Police Unity Tour are making the personal and physical commitment to do this, we find ourselves in need of financial support from the community we serve.  We must raise $40,000 to support 20 riders and assisting personnel.  All donations are tax deductible and can be made online here via our secure donation button.  If you wish to donate by check, please send it to the attention of Major Mary Levy at 3410 Court House Dr, Ellicott City, MD 21043, payable to the Police Unity Tour, Chapter 9.
